Keeping the peel slide carriage properly lubricated is a straightforward maintenance task that helps the carriage move smoothly. This guide walks through the process of locating the grease fitting, applying grease, and cleaning up afterward.
Safety first: Before beginning, engage the machine’s safety bar and follow all applicable equipment safety procedures. Consult the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions if your equipment differs from the configuration described here.
What You’ll Need
Item | Purpose |
Grease gun | Applies grease to the fitting. |
Clean shop towel or rag | Removes excess grease after lubrication. |
Appropriate personal protective equipment | Supports safe maintenance work in accordance with site procedures. |
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Secure the equipment
Begin by placing the safety bar in the engaged position. Confirm that the equipment is secure before reaching into the peel carriage area.
2. Move the peel carriage back
Grasp the peel carriage and move it fully to the rear. This creates access to the grease fitting located in the carriage channel.
3. Locate the zerk fitting
Look in the center of the channel where the peel carriage sits. The zerk fitting is positioned there, although it may be difficult to see depending on the viewing angle and equipment configuration.
4. Attach the grease gun
Hold the carriage steady with one hand. With the other hand, seat the grease-gun nozzle securely onto the zerk fitting. A firm connection helps prevent the nozzle from slipping while grease is applied.
5. Apply grease
Pump the grease gun three to five times. Use only the amount needed for this routine lubrication step; avoid over-applying grease.
6. Remove the nozzle and clean the area
Pull the grease-gun nozzle straight off the fitting. Then use a clean shop towel to wipe away any excess grease around the zerk fitting and carriage channel.
