Tech Tip: Installing the Stahls Hotronix Stampinator on a ROQ Automatic Screen Printing Press

If you're printing fleece, high-pile garments, or jobs where consistency is everything, the Stampinator isn’t just an add-on—it’s a game changer.

But like any piece of equipment, performance starts with proper setup.

Installing the Stampinator correctly ensures:

  • Even pressure across garments

  • Consistent ink curing and adhesion

  • Reduced errors and rework

  • Longer equipment lifespan

Let’s walk through exactly how to install it—step by step.


Step 1: Position the Stampinator on the Press

Start by rolling your platen into position and sliding the Stampinator directly onto the print head.

  • Make sure your pallet is not overly sticky—this can interfere with placement

  • Slide the unit smoothly into the print head mount

  • Ensure it sits flush and stable

This is your foundation—get this wrong, and everything downstream suffers.


Step 2: Adjust the Heat Plate Position

The Stampinator is fully adjustable, so take advantage of that.

  • Move the heat plate forward or backward depending on your platen setup

  • Aim for alignment with the front of the platen for optimal contact

  • Tighten the adjustment knobs once positioned

Keep the lock knobs out of the way to avoid catching garments during production.


Step 3: Center the Stampinator

Before locking anything in:

  • Look underneath the unit

  • Visually confirm it is centered on the platen

  • Make micro-adjustments as needed

This step directly impacts print consistency across your run.


Step 4: Secure the Teflon Pad

Your Teflon pad protects both the platen and your garments.

  • Check for looseness

  • Tighten it carefully—but don’t overtighten

  • Too much tension can damage the Teflon

A properly secured pad prevents sticking and uneven pressure.


Step 5: Lock It In and Power Up

Once everything is aligned:

  • Lock the Stampinator into place

  • Choose your power configuration:

110V Option

  • Plug into a 20-amp circuit

  • Use a heavy-duty 20-amp power cord

  • Ideal for flexibility and quick setup

220V Option (Recommended for ROQ)

  • Wire directly into your press

  • Faster recovery and optimal performance

Important: If using 110V, consult an electrician to ensure compliance with local electrical codes.


Step 6: Manage and Secure Power Cables

Loose cables are a serious risk.

  • Route the cable safely along the press

  • Use zip ties or removable ties to secure it

  • Prevent it from falling into moving parts

If a cable gets caught, it can cause major damage—don’t skip this.


Step 7: Position the Print Head and Install Location

Move your press into position:

  • Keep print carriages fully back

  • Load the Stampinator into your desired print head (commonly head 7 or 2 depending on cycle)

  • Set the limiter to prevent forward movement

This protects the Stampinator from accidental impact.


Step 8: Calibrate Off-Contact Settings

Now we dial in performance.

  • Start with off-contact set to 1

  • Higher off-contact = less pressure

  • Lower off-contact = more pressure

For fleece or thicker garments, starting at 1 is ideal and can be adjusted as needed.


Step 9: Set Dwell Time (Stamp Time)

Stamp time is controlled by print head speed and distance.

  • Use an open print head for full control

  • Start with a target of 3–4 seconds

  • Adjust squeegee stroke length to fine-tune timing

Test and adjust:

  • Too long → risk overheating

  • Too short → insufficient bonding

Dial it in based on your garment and ink system.


Step 10: Protect Your Platen During Use

When working with hot surfaces:

  • Place a shirt or fleece layer on the platen

  • Prevent adhesive from sticking to the Teflon

  • Extend the life of your equipment

This small step saves you from big headaches later.


Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Installing on overly sticky pallets

  • Misaligned or off-center placement

  • Using incorrect power supply

  • Loose cables near moving parts

  • Skipping dwell time calibration

Avoid these, and your Stampinator will perform exactly how it should.
