ROQ.US Tech Tip: 60 Seconds a Month Can Help Protect Your ROQ FEED and ROQ FEED+

When it comes to transfer automation, reliability is everything.
Your ROQ FEED or ROQ FEED+ is designed to streamline production, reduce manual handling, and keep
your ROQ IMPRESS running efficiently.
Like any piece of equipment, a few minutes of preventative maintenance can go a long way toward maintaining consistent performance.
The good news? This isn't a daily or even weekly task.
According to ROQ US Technician Buck Premo, most shops only need to perform these checks about once per month to keep their system operating at its best.
Let's walk through the simple maintenance routine.
Why Monthly Maintenance Matters
The ROQ FEED and ROQ FEED+ rely on vacuum systems, suction cups, and linear rails to accurately pick, position, and place transfers. Over time, dust, adhesive powder, and production debris can accumulate and impact performance.
A quick monthly inspection can help:
Maintain consistent transfer placement
Prevent unnecessary vacuum alarms
Reduce wear on moving components
Improve overall system reliability
Catch worn consumable parts before they become a problem
The entire process takes only a few minutes and can help prevent costly downtime later.
Step 1: Inspect the Vacuum Unit Filter
One of the first items to check is the vacuum unit filter located inside the machine.
Using a 3mm Allen wrench from your spare parts kit, open the access panel and locate the vacuum unit. The filter can be removed by sliding the unit upward and loosening the filter housing.
What You're Looking For
Inspect the filter for:
Excessive powder buildup
Dust accumulation
Blockages that could restrict airflow
A clean filter helps ensure the vacuum system can maintain proper suction and transfer handling performance. If your machine begins experiencing vacuum-related issues, this should be one of the first areas you inspect.
After inspection, reinstall the filter, secure the housing, and close the access panel.
Step 2: Clean and Inspect the Suction Cups
Next, inspect the suction cups on the transfer handling assembly.
Simply wipe each suction cup clean using your hand or a clean cloth to remove any dust, powder, or debris that may have accumulated during production.
Check for Wear and Damage
While cleaning, inspect each suction cup for:
Cracks
Tears
Deformation
Signs of wear
The suction cups are consumable items and play a critical role in maintaining a proper vacuum seal. Damaged cups can trigger vacuum alarms and negatively impact transfer placement accuracy. Replacement suction cups are available through ROQ US when needed.
Step 3: Lubricate the X-Rail System
The final step is lubricating the rails that guide the spider assembly from left to right. Buck recommends applying a thin layer of SKF bearing grease to all rail surfaces. Shops can use either a grease gun or the SKF grease supplied in the spare parts kit.
Proper Rail Lubrication
When lubricating the lower rails:
Clean away old grease and debris first
Apply a thin layer of fresh grease
Cover the top, front, and bottom surfaces
For the upper rails:
Wipe away any dust or old grease
Apply a thin, even coating
Remove any excess grease after application
Move the spider assembly left and right to access all sections of the rails. Once complete, return the assembly to the center (zero) position before resuming operation.
Common Mistakes to Avoid. While performing maintenance, keep these best practices in mind:
Don't Over-Grease
More grease is not better. A thin coating is all that's needed to properly lubricate the rail surfaces.
Don't Ignore Damaged Suction Cups
Even minor damage can impact vacuum performance and transfer accuracy.
Don't Skip Filter Inspections
A dirty filter can reduce vacuum efficiency and create avoidable production issues.
Return the Spider to Zero
Before restarting production, always return the spider assembly to its center position to ensure proper operation.
Small Maintenance Tasks Deliver Big Results
One of the biggest advantages of the ROQ FEED and ROQ FEED+ is their simplicity. With just a few minutes of preventative maintenance each month, shops can help ensure consistent transfer placement, maintain vacuum performance, and maximize the lifespan of critical components.
As Buck points out, this isn't a maintenance routine you'll need to perform frequently—just a quick monthly check to keep your automation running smoothly.
