“My barn having burned down, I can now see the moon.”
― Mizuta Masahide (17th century Japanese poet and samurai)
With the slew of stay-at-home orders coming through across the country, I briefly found myself longing for some semblance of the ways things used to be. In the confines of a quarantine, it’s easy to fall into the trapping allure of thinking the days of old were so much better, so much easier, so much more desirable. And while in many ways, the familiar routines of yesterday felt more comfortable, perhaps most of that comfort came explicitly from the familiarity we gave our regular to-dos.
3 Powerful Actions You Can Make Right Now to Claim Your Best Tomorrow Today
“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.”
― Marcus Aurelius
- Permit yourself to take a step back during this global step back in order to be able to get a global perspective on your life, your work, and your opportunities.
For the majority of us, these are unprecedented times. As the deluge of mixed messages continue to flood our social feeds and TV stations, we’re left to fend for ourselves. However, we can change the way we view this and make it work for us instead of against us. The fact of the matter is that while these are unprecedented times for most of us, they’re far from unprecedented throughout history -- and they’re even not that uncommon for many alive today. I bring this up not to diminish or disrespect the severity of our current situation or anyone’s health in any way, but to offer a bit of relieving perspective.
The Black Death took roughly a third of Europe’s population -- and did so over centuries. Centuries riddled with indescribable fear and pestilence.
The Influenza Pandemic of 1918 took more people in one year than the totality of those who were lost in World War I.
The Plague of Justinian took approximately 10,000 people per day at its dreadful height.
The common theme of all these listed (and all those not listed) is that they occurred throughout history -- and history has blessed us with two encouraging things: a.) the lesson of wisdom that this too shall pass, and b.) the lesson of scientific advancement. Fortunately, we live in the best time possible for us to have a fighting chance against pathogens. Scientists successfully mapped the genome of COVID-19 within weeks and our technology has enabled the entire world to race toward the front lines to defeat this common enemy. Within weeks! Consider that in comparison to how our ancestors had to face quarantine and suffer for hundreds of years without any hope for answers or meaningful care. And the reason we’re all here today, in spite of the warlike assault on those who came before us, is that those who came before us kept moving.
“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”
- Take at least one step forward today in the direction your intuitive compass is pointing you toward. And then take another. And another...
No matter how small or seemingly insignificant, there is real magic in motion. This is the very essence of the #PressOnward movement.
We can’t control everyone, but we can control ourselves at any given moment. Aside from temporarily separating from each other to slow/stop the spread of this diabolical disease, we can continue to move forward each day in demonstrated faith in our evolutionary advantages. In addition to all the actions we can make each day, there are hundreds of free courses from major universities available to take online to strengthen and expand our skill sets too! If we all commit to charging ahead by working from home, but still together through the gifts our tech provides, imagine what world we could create together in just a few weeks!
Of course the road will be bumpy. But if we’re being truthful with ourselves, isn’t it always? Whether a biological virus today, or an economic recession yesterday, or the unknown monsters of tomorrow, our lives have always been -- and will likely always be -- full of unexpected obstacles to overcome. But as the adage goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” If we continue to face each obstacle with perseverance, we shall ultimately and inevitably prevail.
We started the #ROQSolo movement to take this philosophy head-on with you. ROQ automatic machines are intentionally designed to operate at full capacity with even just one person. During this team hiatus, if you #DontStopThePresses and #ROQSolo, not only will you prove to yourself that you’re unstoppable, you’ll prove it to everyone in your circle and inspire us all to follow your awesome example. Your leadership when it’s needed most is what makes you a treasured Hero of ROQ and we pledge that we will continue to be here for you throughout your epic and noble quest -- we’re still shipping, interest rates are incredibly low, and our phones are on (87-ROQ-IT-NOW), ready to support you in every way possible to keep your rocket ship soaring!
“A Stoic is someone who transforms fear into prudence, pain into transformation, mistakes into initiation, and desire into undertaking.”
― Taleb Nassim Nicholas
- Embrace the conscious practice of Stoicism.
Resolve within yourself that only you have the power to stop you from achieving your objectives. Above all else, with every fiber of your being, assume this is true: hold yourself exclusively accountable for your situation and you’ll unlock the doorway to liberation. Doing so removes any and all excuses from tricking you into believing in them and places you in the realm of possibility and opportunity -- the realm of empowerment -- the way of the Hero[ine].
#PressOnward in solace from the truth in the proverb that declares, “Fortune favors the bold.” If you’re a one-person operation for the time being, boldly #ROQSolo and show us all how it’s done. We believe in you and we’re rooting for you!
In the spirit of #ROQSolo, we’re launching a load/unload competition through April 2nd, with the winner landing a $1,000+ gross profit contract job! Here are the rules:
- Post your video on social via Instagram and Facebook with the hashtag #ROQsolo
- 1 loader/unloader
- 1 minute on the clock
- Must be at least 1 color print
- You cannot make 1 mistake (misloaded shirt, missed shirt, etc.)
- The 1 loader must load and unload.
- You may use the pause/start, or stop/safety bar, etc.
- The shirt must go onto the conveyor dryer in sellable condition.
- The time starts when the first shirt comes off the press.
- The last shirt that hits the conveyor dryer counts.
- By simple math, the fastest that anyone can possibly do it on a ROQ platform will be between 20-22 pieces in one minute. The winner of our Long Beach competition did under 12! Good luck! #DontStopThePresses #ROQsolo and #PressOnward
